young boy smiling in adventure playground

This post has been written by Remap UK.

Rico enjoys playing with the other children at his school’s adventure playground. But as he has a form of dwarfism, he wasn’t able to reach some of the equipment, in particular the rope walk. Fortunately, the school knew about the free service provided by Remap so contacted their local group by searching at www.remap.org.uk/contact. Remap is a charity that fills the gap where no suitable equipment is available commercially. Our skilled volunteers design and make gadgets and equipment for individuals and groups, free of charge!

Brian and Ashley are two of our volunteers at Remap Essex North and went to visit the school to see what could be done. Before too long they had added an extra set of ropes to the chain walk for Rico to hang on to. They also built some steps so that he could climb up to the apparatus.

The improvements were a great success. The first thing Rico told his parents about at home time was the rope walk! Now he can’t wait for playtime so he can join in all the fun with his friends. We think his smile says it all!

Everything provided by Remap is free of charge! We help to improve quality of life and increase independence for disabled people of all ages. We do this by providing solutions to everyday problems when there is nothing commercially available. We design and custom-make equipment for each individual because everyone’s needs are different. Every year our network of skilled volunteers respond to thousands of requests for our help.

What challenge do you have for Remap?

Whether you need a piece of equipment that isn’t on the market, or to have something adapted, Remap can help. Remap volunteers can design and custom-make equipment for your specific needs. The service is available to disabled people of all ages free of charge and you can request our help directly.
