Joanne Hoyle, Adult Specialist Nurse tells us how excited she is to be attending her first Kidz to Adultz event.

I am looking forward to attending my first Kidz to Adultz event as a new staff member of the Bladder and Bowel UK team. I have heard lots about the event and seen the hard work and enthusiasm that has gone into planning this day and making it an excellent day for all. I can’t wait to see the exhibition after hearing lots of whispers about what this involves. It will be a privilege to attend and join in the day meeting lots of children, families and company representatives along the way!

I am excited to join the event and be part of the 120 year celebration of Disabled Living. I have been warned that this is a long tiring day but so worthwhile so with that in mind I have my Kidz T-shirt and flat shoes at the ready!

Davina Richardson, Children’s Continence Nurse – Bladder and Bowel UK

This will be my third Kidz to Adultz North exhibition. Bladder and Bowel UK are part of Disabled Living, who organise the Kidz to Adultz events across the country.  We provide impartial information, advice, and support about continence issues to anyone who has bladder or bowel problems and to the carers and professionals who support them.  We are also able to provide bespoke training to organisations and professionals.

Children and young people with disabilities often have bladder or bowel problems and the nature of these has been reflected in the presentations that I have delivered at the previous Kidz to Adultz events. The first year I was there, I talked about toilet training children with additional needs and last year I spoke about ‘Poo Problems’, including constipation, refusal to use the toilet and other bowel difficulties.

This year the title of my seminar is ‘Managing Continence Issues in Schools’ and will cover the causes of bladder and bowel problems in children with additional needs, how wetting and soiling should be managed in schools and how schools can support children with continence problems.

This year we will be on stand DL120 at Kidz to Adultz North. Please do come and see us if you have any concerns about toilet training, constipation, night time wetting, use of devices such as sheaths or urinals or continence products. We will be available all day and will have a range of resources and information available. We look forward to meeting you!
