Kidz to Adultz Scotland 2016

Around 1500 people headed to Edinburgh’s Royal Highland Centre on 15th September for Kidz to Adultz Scotland – one of the largest, free Scottish events dedicated to children and young adults up to 25 years with disabilities and additional needs, their families, carers and the professionals who work with them.

Over 80 exhibitors were able to offer advice, support and information to attendees: mobility, communication, equipment and technology, beds and seating, toys and learning aids, funding, sports and much more.

Free event with a range of CPD seminars

The free to attend event also hosted a number of accredited seminars attended by over 740 delegates including parents, guardians, carers and professionals, on topics such as moving and handling, behaviours that challenge, Autism, sleep issues, legal advice and many others.

Visitors came from all over Scotland including: Edinburgh, Glasgow, Sterling, Perth and Stranraer. Some families came from further afield, commuting from as far as Newcastle, Sheffield and even Northern Ireland.

Edinburgh Leisure provided a number of sporting activities to coincide with the summer of sport. Activities included: wheelchair tennis, additional support needs (ASN) tennis and cardio tennis.

Carmel Hourigan, senior manager at Disabled Living said:

We had extremely positive feedback from both attendees and exhibitors. It was wonderful to see people coming from all over Scotland to join us for this special event and take away knowledge and information from our exhibitors, which they could transfer into the care of their children and young adults.

We would like to thank all the exhibitors, speakers, organisers, volunteers, attendees and our host venue, The Royal Highland Centre, for making it all possible.

Anna Myatt, Tennis development officer from Edinburgh Leisure said:

With Summer 2016 being the summer of sport, we really wanted to get the children, their families and all attendees involved in activities and show them what is available in the region. Our sports area was popular all day and it was great to meet such inspirational and talented children and young adults. We hope we have some future sporting stars in the making.

The day also held a free prize draw with prizes from Celtic Football Club and Rangers Football Club, The Edinburgh Dungeon, The Falkirk Wheel, The Royal Yacht Britannia and lots more. Winners will be informed this week.

Kidz to Adultz Scotland took place at The Royal Highland Centre, on Thursday 15th September from 9.30am to 4.30pm. For more information on future events and to book your free tickets, visit our website.
