This post has been written by Jon Nock on behalf of Etac R82.

Jo McConnell, OT and Etac Education Manager, has showcased her extensive expertise in effective seating for disabled children, in her CPD Postural Seating Seminar to a large number of professionals at Kidz to Adultz South

Jo presented to a full seminar room of healthcare professionals, carers and parents at the latest Kidz event in Farnborough. Her educational session was entitled ‘Paediatric Postural Seating Assessment Tips‘. The seminar looked at motor development, both in terms of milestones and the early signs of impaired movement. It progressed on to reviewing posture and why there is a need for specialist equipment to assist children with disabilities.

There was a focus on seating for children with disabilities, assessment techniques and how to seat a child appropriately with postural needs. Symmetrical vs asymmetrical posture was considered for hips/legs along with correct support for leg positioning. The seminar also highlighted considerations when assessing a child with posterior pelvic tilt, deformities of the spine/scoliosis, muscle tone and spasticity.

This seminar was well received by attendees. Several OT peers continued discussions with Jo on the Etac R82 exhibition stand

Jo was able to highlight the effectiveness of R82 products in terms of her clinical presentation. She gave details regarding Etac’s free ‘SAT’ training courses for professionals. As part of Etac’s ongoing commitment to education, SAT (Seating Assessment Training) allows paediatric Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists to further their knowledge of seating principles and problem solving solutions.

In terms of product, Stand C1 displayed a comprehensive selection of well-designed paediatric assistive equipment from Etac R82’s trusted range of brands. R82 products assist children with sitting, standing, walking, hoisting, toileting and bathing. The new R82 Rabbit Up was unveiled for the first time at the show which is a two-in-one standing frame that promotes independence and inclusion.
