Working in conjunction with Abacus Specialist Bathroom Solutions, Kate Sheehan, Occupational Therapist, will be delivering a seminar for professionals focusing on the importance of play whilst bathing at Kidz to Adultz North.

Date: Thursday 8th November 2018
Time: 1.00pm – 2.00pm
Location: Seminar room 2, EventCity, Barton Dock Road,  Manchester, M17 8AS
Seminar Title: “Bathing – the right to play”
Speaker: Kate Sheehan, Occupational Therapist and Managing Director, The OT Service – in association with Abacus Specialist Bathroom Solutions

Play, along with the basic needs of nutrition, health, shelter and education are vital to develop the potential of a child according to the United Nations

In the UK, many children play at bath time yet it is not often a primary consideration within an Occupational Therapist’s recommendations during the assessment process. This session will explore “play” as an occupation and consider how legislation and clinical reasoning can be used to support the necessity of a bath in the design process. The learning objectives of this session are:

  • Have an overview of “play” as an occupation
  • Be able to list the relevant legislation to support bathing
  • Explain how clinical reasoning can be used to support the necessity of a bath in the design process.

On stand C21 Abacus will be demonstrating the popular Gemini bath and its range of educational material and training programmes

The power-assisted Gemini is a proven choice for OTs, carers and families seeking a safe accessible bathing solution. Its unique ‘double lift’ action provides safe working heights for carers and the integrated changing, drying and bathing platform eliminates many awkward transfer processes. Reassurance and enjoyment are maximised for young disabled bathers and a range of specialist postural supports provide tailor-made comfort.

In addition to product demonstrations, the friendly Regional Assessment Managers will be on hand to provide free educational guides regarding bath funding, ownership and user case studies. Details regarding the Abacus CPD training programmes will also be available along with information on the successful ‘Lunch and Learn’ assisted bathing workshops.
