Bladder and Bowel UK Are Coming to Kidz to Adultz Scotland 2017

The team at Bladder and Bowel UK always look forward to attending Kidz to Adultz Scotland, as it provides us with an opportunity to catch up and meet with regular visitors to this wonderful event who we have met over the years of attending. And it also enables us to introduce ourselves to those of you who may not know about the help and advice that Bladder and Bowel UK offer.

Did you know that:-

  • Bladder and bowel problems in childhood and young people are very common.
  • Problems including difficulties with toilet training, wetting and/or soiling affect up to 28% of all children and adolescents at any one time.
  • Younger children are affected more often than older children, although problems can happen at any age.
  • All children and young people with a bladder / bowel problem, including those who have additional needs, should be offered an assessment and treatment as appropriate.

So how can Bladder and Bowel UK help you?

We have an expert team of nurse specialists and product advisors, who are able to provide information and advice along with bladder and bowel / continence product advice.  We are here to help signpost you to additional specialist and support services and inform you about the many treatment and management options that may be considered, to help those with bladder and bowel problems.

We also have a wide range of information booklets and resources on our website, which are freely downloadable for all. The team will be bringing some of our resources along for you to have a look though on the stand along with a display of continence products.

This year, Andrea Greenfield, our Product and Information Co-ordinator and Davina Richardson, Specialist Paediatric Continence Nurse will be on hand, welcoming you to the BBUK stand. Both will be happy to provide information and advice and answer any queries you may have.

Davina will also be speaking in seminar room 2 at 12.30 on the topic of Continence in Schools so please do pop along to this free seminar. Many children suffer from problems with using the toilet or have delayed toilet training.

Davina tells us that:

These issues are more common in children with additional needs and can cause stress and embarrassment to the child and family and concerns to staff when children are of school age.

Davina’s session will inform families and professionals on how they are able to work together to meet the needs of the individual child.

Davina also informs us that:

This is an important topic to discuss… my seminar will consider issues about what causes bladder and bowel problems in children with additional needs, how wetting and soiling should be managed in schools, how schools can support children who have not been toilet trained, the different roles of the family, the child, the school and other professionals in supporting children at school, and how to manage when there are disagreements such as about responsibilities or whether or not the child is ready to start toilet training.

So please do come along and visit us on stand A20 and introduce yourselves. We look forward to seeing you.

Bladder and Bowel UK is part of the wider charitable organisation, Disabled Living, which provides information about services, practical solutions and equipment advice for those who need it.
